What's New This Month?

Halloween and More!

To me, Halloween should be FUN!  And, that's what I hope you'll feel in these photos of our store displays for Halloween and Fall.

Our friend and artist, Melissa Tereck, always comes up with such fun Halloween creations!  All are hand made, one of a kind.  There are two "rolly poly's" and the witch is a candy container.  We've been featuring Melissa's work at Birds of a Feather for several years and I know many of you look forward to her latest creations to add to your growing collections of her artistry.

Tommy is so cute!  We're looking for a good home for him as well as all of Melissa's other wonderful creations!

Around the store, you will find fun Fall stuff from the cutest little collection of vintage toy chairs...

To "scary" banners and decorator pieces to spice up your home for this special non-holiday Holiday!

And, yes!  We have a fresh batch of Putka Pods...little natural seed pods that grow in the Midwest and look like tiny pumpkins!  You can buy them by the scoop for your decorating needs.

For more views of what's in the store now, simply click on What's New Two.  Enjoy!

And would you like a sneak preview of what's coming for our 7th Annual Holiday Open House?  Then click here, because I've hidden it on the What's New Two page.

Just to make sure everyone has heard, here are our Winter hours now in effect ~ Monday & Wednesday-Saturday, 10-5.  Sundays, 12-5.  Closed Tuesdays.  If ever in doubt, call me at the store or leave a message at 805.927.2391.  Or send me a quick email at this link.  I'll get right back to you.  Hope to see you soon!

Remnants of the Past Antique Show!
O
nce again, Birds of a Feather will be at the Remnants of the Past Antique Show in Nipomo this Fall!  The date is Saturday only, October 18th from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm.

This is such a fun show ~ lots of great vendors with interesting, unusual things and nice people (both selling and buying!).  Great food from the Old Edna Cafe, beautiful setting and ambiance, clean bathrooms ~ what more could we want?!  Please join us for a day of fun in Nipomo!  We're just inside the barn door to the right.  For directions, go to their website at: www.remnantsofthepast.com.

Watch for "Live Artfully" Magazine!

I am so pleased to let you know that Birds of a Feather will be featured in the Fall cookbook edition and again in the early Spring edition of "Live Artfully" magazine!  The magazine is a labor of love by Jenny Malott, Creative Director and Publisher.

Here's Jenny in a typical pose as she was taking photos for the magazine recently at Birds of a Feather.  We appreciate so much Jenny including some of these photos in her very well done and delightful piece.  For more information on the magazine and to subscribe, please visit her web site at www.liveartfullymagazine.com and tell them that Birds of a Feather sent you!  I know you'll enjoy it!

The Birdhouse is Going Green!
T
hat's right!  As we all become more environmentally aware, we are looking for ways to contribute in a positive way to this earth at the birdhouse! Many of you tell me that you re-use the bags and tissue, and I always send out packages in the mail with recycled bubble wrap, boxes, etc. My store wrap is made of recycled materials as much as I can find them, and the string is help, a biodegradable, renewable product. Part of the joy for me is wrapping your packages in a fun, seasonal theme and I don't plan to give that up!  But, I will always be on the lookout for ways to use materials that are environmentally friendly and hope that you will find them interesting enough to re-use them ~ even if it's just to line your bird cages!  After all, antiques are the ultimate in recyclables!

Real Birds Nests!
W
hen our feathered friends leave the nest, what happens? Sometimes the wind brings them down. Or a tree trimming project removes the nest along with the branch. Or the remodeling of a building disturbs the former home. Or an animal, perhaps a predator, has found the nest. And sometimes, they are simply found on the ground by someone out for a walk. Fortunately, many of them find their way into Birds of a Feather to enjoy a "second life" by showing us the craftsmanship it took to create such a home.

Now you will find a varied display of real birds nests in the store. Most are priced at $25 and I'll be happy to make sure they are wrapped securely or put in a box if you are here on vacation and will be traveling a distance. These are all real and, of course, they are one~of~a~kind!  Next time you come by Birds of a Feather, stop to search out and appreciate these little works of wonder!

How Does Your Garden Grow?
I
'm sorry to say we are all sold out of these hand-made, one-of-a-kind Seed Packets. A Birds of a Feather exclusive.

Each is individually hand-painted and if you come in the store one day and see me with paints and brushes and little seed packets spread all over the counter, you'll know what I'm doing ~ getting more painted and ready for the 2009 season with new seeds of various types.  If you missed the 2008 selection, know that there are more coming for 2009!  When they're ready, I'll let you know right here on our Birds of a Feather website. Then, you can pick a favorite and enjoy!  Now, where did I put my paints?

We Are Your Ribbon Source!
B
irds of a Feather is also your Ribbon Headquarters!

German Glass Glitter ~ You'll Find It Here!
T

You can fancy up a special card, sparkle your Princess Crown, add it to
your notes, or magic wand! Or, just hoard it in your special crafting stash!  We offer nice sized individual containers for $5.50 each. Also, ask about creating a specific gift package for a creative friend.

An Old Fashioned Christmas!

Remember when we used to go downtown to see the Christmas decorations, stroll by the stores and shop as a family for something unique and special for someone that we knew they would love ~ instead of a gift card at Target?

Well, Cambria provides that experience for people who want an old fashioned Christmas shopping experience. During the month of December, the whole town celebrates Holidays in the Pines!  Santa and carolers kick it off at Hospitality Night with treats in many of the local establishments, and then the fun continues right up until Christmas!
